Telok Ayer – Past and Present

Telok Ayer Walking Trail

You might think that Chinatown was the place where Singapore’s first Chinese immigrants settled. Surprisingly, you’d be wrong. Before Chinatown, there was Telok Ayer. Telok Ayer was the original area allocated to the Chinese community in Sir Stamford Raffles’ 1822 Plan for the Town of Singapore. It was around this very street that the Chinese settlement grew and flourished. Retrace the footsteps of Singapore’s early migrants as you explore this relaxing food and history trail.
